Lately, I find myself returning to something perfectly said by Mister Rogers. “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” This past, my son didn’t have to look far.
Every day for the last month of school, his teacher sent videos of herself reading Charlotte’s Web from her living room to ours. They started the book in class eagerly sitting together with their friends in a circle on the colorful carpet in their second-grade classroom. Being able to see his teacher’s familiar face delivering her signature greetings with a hopeful voice made a very abnormal situation just a little more normal.
A chapter a day brought a class of seven-year-olds and their amazing teacher together when everything else in the world was canceled. No matter what – Fern, Charlotte and Wilbur’s epic adventure will always be tied to Mrs. Coleman for my son. I am forever grateful. What an absolute gift from a helper!
Did you have a teacher you would like to thank for making learning possible when school went virtual? This year, Juicy Juice is honoring teachers who have gone above and beyond for their students through the 100% Thankful Contest. Parents can nominate teachers at juicyjuice.com/thankful to win over $30,000 available in prizes!
Juicy Juice 100% Juice is a great choice for kids since it has no added sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, and is an excellent source of Vitamin C. Even better – it also provides one cup of fruit in every 8-ounce serving.
As our school year begins 100 percent virtually, I plan to create sanity for myself and give my kids a routine. The night before I will pack daily lunches, peanut butter sandwiches, seasonal fruits, a sweet and their favorite Juicy Juice flavor. Their daily trips to the cafeteria will be replaced with a picnic blanket on our living room floor. Away from screens I hope this is a time for us to nourish ourselves and reconnect during this extraordinary year.
