Lionsgate has released the newest trailer for “John Wick: Chapter 4.” The fourth installmenet of the John Wick film franchise finds the titular assassin on the run (Keanu Reeves) takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Japan to Berlin.
John Wick has faced insurmountable odds ever since he made his cinematic debut in 2014 when he took revenge on the Russian mob broke into his home, stole his vintage car and killed his puppy, which was a last gift to him from his recently deceased wife. Since then, Wick has been on the run from the High Table after he killed one of its members in a Continental Hotel, which is considered neutral ground for its members.
But Chapter 4 gives Wick the opportunity to get back in the High Table’s good graces. However, he must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances. The trailer reveals what we love so much about the franchise, including the high fashion, stunt work, gun play, stunning locations, and of course, delving deeper into the world of assassins.
And since this is sequel, that means we’ll see new characters, some of whom have lethal assassination skills that could be trouble for John. And the trailer gives us a small peek at Donnie Yen’s Caine, who may be an ally or an adversary. Whatever the case, it be a shame if the film just had him sit around and chat exposition with John.
Then there’s Hiroyuki Sanada’s Shimazu, who appears to have a history with John. Whether or not that benefits John’s quest to be in the High Table’s good favor remains to be seen. But based on the posse that Shimazu has behind him, it can only mean trouble for our titular character.
But the one person that John should be worried about is Marquis. Played by Bill Skarsgård, Marquis’ goals are just as deadly as his sharply dressed attire. Given that Bill Skarsgård is known for playing sinister characters like Pennywise from “It,” we have to surmise that the very dashing Marquis is just as scary.
Additionally, we overhear Winston (Ian McShane) mentioning to John that family protects each other. Which can only mean that the John Wick mythology can only get bigger with the introduction of Katia (Natalia Tena), who appears to be just as enigmatic as John. But who could she be? A blood sister? Some sort of close relative? I guess we will have to just wait and see.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” opens in theaters on March 24, 2023
