Sony Pictures has released the newest trailer for “Harold and The Purple Crayon.” The film adaptation of Crockett Johnson’s book of the same name stars Zachary Levi, who possesses a magical purple crayon that can turn any of his drawings to life. But when he draws himself out of the book an into the physical world, he finds out that his creativity knows no bounds and that such magic can be misused when in the wrong hands.
Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” seems like the easiest choice for a song to play with a trailer about a boy and his magic crayon, but it’s one that rings true to the spirit of the book where seeing is believing. It’s not too hard to gather who this film was meant for seeing how the overall silliness comes out of Harold’s drawings. He can create bikes and roller skates with the simple stroke of his crayon. And then there’s people turning into a moose that adds to the kid-friendly hilarity.
The live-action hybrid family adventure/comedy stars Zachary Levi, Lil Rel Howery, Benjamin Bottani, Jemaine Clement, Tanya Reynolds with Alfred Molina and Zooey Deschanel. The film’s screenplay is written by David Guion & Michael Handelman, based on the book by Crockett Johnson.
Directed by Carlos Saldanha, “Harold and The Purple Crayon” opens in theaters on August 2, 2024.
