Are you planning a trip to San Diego California anytime soon? Here are just a few hot tips on some free things to do while you are visiting! If you visit museums and attractions on the right day you could enter for a great discount and often times for FREE! Here are just a few of the most popular deals and steals from San Diego…………….
Historic Balboa Park offers FREE museum entry for San Diego residents and Military (and their families) every Tuesday. Each Tuesday offers different museums! Check it out HERE! I assume many visitors will be coming with family who reside in San Diego – make sure to visit on Tuesday and save a bundle!
The New Children’s Museum located in downtown San Diego is FREE every second Sunday thanks to the good people at Target! It gets very busy as the day goes on, but it is AWESOME! Get there early!
The California Surf Museum is a fun and inexpensive museum in Oceanside CA. The Surf Museum is free every Tuesday!
The first Tuesday of every month you can enjoy FREE entry to the San Diego Botanic Gardens. Have four or more people in your car and get FREE parking too! The San Diego Botanic Gardens is a BEAUTIFUL reserve with hiking trails and an awesome children’s garden complete with playground!
Legoland California is one of our young family’s favorite places to hang out. I HIGHLY suggest checking out the Legoland facebook page before visiting. They often offer sweet online deals; we have even seen free tickets given away on Facebook.
The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park are world famous! You can find discount tickets in just about any San Diego publication. However, the BEST deal in my opinion is coming during October. During the month of October kids are FREE. No coupon is necessary, and no minimum adult requirement!
As with any trip, I always suggest to check out the membership cards you have – Costco, AAA, etc – this seems so obvious, but many people forget to check out the deals in other cities! We also always start following the daily deals (Groupon, Living Social, Etc) of the city we are planning on visiting a few weeks before we embark – everything from paddle boats to Segway tours are available at half price (or less!)
To find more fun freebies in San Diego, make sure to check out the San Diego Deals and Steals Calendar – it’s full of all kinds of free options! San Diego can be an expensive place to visit, but it doesn’t have to be if you know where to look!
*Kate lives in sunny San Diego with her Mr. Deals & Steals, three kids, and one naughty cat. She is passionate about adoption and saving money. She operates San Diego Deals and Steals where she blogs about both.

Thank you for the tip about the museums! I am a museum junkie and we’re visiting his mom who is now living there, so it’s awesome!
