I got the opportunity to arrange a meeting between my daughter, Teagan and her favorite character actor, Michael Rooker! It was one of these sweet parenting moments that I will savor!
Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, is played by Michael Rocker. He is Teagan’s favorite character. Last week, Michael was the guest of honor at the Marvel “Get the Yondu Look Tribute Event” held at Shorty’s Barber Shop in West Hollywood. Knowing how cool this could be, I knew I had to make this meeting happen.
Why does she like Yondu the Ravager? “Yondu is super funny and even though he looks mean on the outside, he’s a big softie in the inside.” That’s what she shared while sporting a huge grin on her face! Yondu had a bigger role this time around in GOTG2 and my daughter was devastated when she learned his fate. For a kid who never cries during movies, I was surprised to see her so emotional during his pivotal scene. Y’all, if you haven’t seen this movie by now then shame on you! So, I’ll avoid spoilers since I’m nice.
We received the GOTG Vol 2 Blu-ray edition and Teagan savored all of the Bonus Features. We get to see Michael Rooker dance in a David Hasselhoff disco video as well as some cool behind-the-scenes moments from the film.
At the Marvel Yondu event, fans who turned out had the option to of dying their hair red to match Yondu’s red fin. 10 extreme fans not only had their hair dyed but shaved just like Yondu’s. My daughter opted for a red stripe on locks. Her plan is to dress as Yondu for Halloween, so this event gave me ideas!
Teagan anxiously awaited her turn to meet Michael. Just the sound of his voice had her beaming! It was really heartwarming to see her so happy! He approached us, and Teagan was speechless. I think she was in disbelief, and she seriously had the biggest grin on her face! We posed for pictures, he joked around with us, and Teagan even had a chance to ask him about his famous line, “I’m Mary Poppins Y’all!” Did he expect the line to be such a big hit? He was hoping it would be, and he thinks that people just liked hearing those words come out of Yondu’s face. We were even treated to an autographed poster. He then fired back a question to Teagan, “Who’s your favorite character on Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2?” She pointed at him and he erupted, “Damn right girl! Yeah!” What an awesome exchange! Btw, Michael is a sharp dresser — nice shirt!
I want to thank Michael, his publicist and especially Gaby over at Disney. My daughter said it was the best day of her life and that she’ll remember that moment forever. Watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 again will have an even more special meaning to her.
From what I’ve heard (and experienced) Michael is really cool to his fans. I highly suggest meeting him at a convention if he’s in a town near you. You won’t be disappointed. But I do have to challenge him to a selfie showdown! He obviously can take better selfies then I can!
