The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its nominees for the 2020 Golden Globe awards early this morning. Netflix earned the most nominations with 11 going to their films like Marriage Story taking six, while The Irishman took five, including two Best Supporting Actor Drama nominations going to Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. However, Robert De Niro was left out in the cold.
Other notable nominated films include Knives Out, which earned three for Best Pictures Musical Or Comedy, and Best Actor Musical or Comedy for Daniel Craig, and Best Actress Musical Or Comedy and Ana De Armas. Joker earned four nominations for Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director, Joaquin Phoenix for Best Actor Drama, and Best Score. Jojo Rabbit took two nominations, one for Best Musical Or Comedy, and the other for Best Actor Musical Or Comedy for Roman Griffin Davis.
Lastly, Boon Joon Ho’s Parasite took home three nominations, including Best Director, which finally recognizes Korean filmmaker and avoiding the possibility of another Best Director category going to nominees that are all white.
The Golden Globes will be held on January 5, 2020, at the Beverly Hilton.
