It’s a lovely day for a new “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” trailer. The new standalone film brings audiences back to the iconic dystopian world and reveals the origins of the powerhouse title character.
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the younger title character, who was kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers by Warlord Dementus, a twisted sociopathic biker gang leader with a death wish (Chris Hemsworth). Years later, this child would grow up and be caught in a war between Dementus and the Citadel’s leader, The Immortan Joe. And only way for Furiosa to get back at Dementus for what he did and return to the Green Place of Many Mothers, which looks like paradise caught in between a wasteland, is to make a deal with Immortan Joe.
The trailer teases a journey home of sorts for the character, who has to fight the world to return home. She will have to overcome some great obstacles that stand in her way. One of them is Dementus, a completely disturbed villain, and one that Hemsworth looks like he had an absolute blast playing. Additionally, the cgi-practical effects hybrid is employed for the visual storytelling, which was used in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Some of the bigger and badder action sequences are far more reliant on the CG technology. So it will be interesting to see the ratio between computer-generated and practicality.
It will be interesting to see how Miller will convince audiences and fans that the standalone film is worthy of being a part of the Mad Max Saga. And Mad Max: Fury Road raised the bar on continuing aging franchises thought to be forgotten.
Miller penned the script with “Mad Max: Fury Road” co-writer Nico Lathouris. Miller’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes first assistant director PJ Voeten and second unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris, director of photography Simon Duggan (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “The Great Gatsby”), composer Tom Holkenborg, sound designer Robert Mackenzie, editor Eliot Knapman, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson and colorist Eric Whipp. The team also includes other longtime collaborators: production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt, each of whom won an Oscar for their work on “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” opens in theaters on May 24, 2024.
