At some point in time, a film that you have been eager to watch this year was unceremoniously postponed to a later date due to the ongoing pandemic. And even though we don’t know what to expect to come out in theaters, we can at least know that studios are still releasing trailers and trying to convince us that it will be safe to go to a theater by the tentative release date. Like ‘Free Guy.’
The video game comedy stars Ryan Reynolds as a non-playable character in an open world video game who wants more out of life than his programming. Needless to say, this quest causes chaos in the real world as programmers who built the game are not sure what to do about it. And the film is set to hit theaters his December. But it is hard to say if that is going to happen considering what is going on right now.
Based on the visuals, Free Guy looks like something that will fill the entire theater with laughs. It’s got that Reynolds charm, with that Taikia Waititi quick wit. Originally set for a summer release earlier this year, Free Guy was eventually put in a pending release when the pandemic hit. Now it’s got a December release date. While it is a sign of hope, we have to remember that major blockbusters pushed their release dates back to a new date or indefinitely.
