It wouldn’t be much of a Super Bowl without trailers. However, the entire climate of the film industry is still in a constant state of flux thanks to the ongoing pandemic. Though it is still unclear whether or not we will see any major films in theaters this year, we can rest easy knowing that those highly anticipated blockbusters will come out, eventually. So, to start things off, Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for F9, the ninth chapter of the “Fast & Furious” film franchise, which has lasted over two decades.
The teaser doesn’t offer us much in terms of plot, but for a two-decade-old franchise that’s practically all about insane car stunts and themes of family, plot doesn’t really matter. We see some familiar places like Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) old house, and some familiar faces like Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron. And there is of course, the car stunts which involves motorcyclists slamming into trees, and cars sliding on its side through a building. And because this franchise centers on the theme of family, it wouldn’t be much of a family drama without bringing back someone like Jakob (John Cena), Dom’s brother who happens to be a skilled assassin and high-performance driver, who teams up with Cipher (Theron) to terrorize the world.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “F9:”
“Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, the upcoming The Suicide Squad).
The action hurtles around the globe—from London to Tokyo, from Central America to Edinburgh, and from a secret bunker in Azerbaijan to the teeming streets of Tbilisi. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.”
Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Sung Kang also star.
“F9” opens in theaters, hopefully, on May 28, 2021.
