Disney has more than plenty of reasons to be happy with Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Not only is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 a huge hit at the box office, but Disney’s California Adventure, Disneyland’s sister theme park right across from Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, has just opened Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. It is a ride that is modeled after the events of the movie but doesn’t take place in the MCU.
After The Hollywood Tower of Terror was closed, it was reconfigured to have a Marvel Cinematic Universe theme to it. So with Guardians of the Galaxy being a hit, it only made sense that it be the first to become a ride. While there’s no doubt that there will be long lines to help Rocket save the Guardians from being a permanent trophy of Tivan The Collector, guests can look at some of the Easter eggs from the film. There will be even a puzzle that they can decode as they wait.
Here’s a description of the ride itself:
After commandeering a gantry lift, you’ll join Rocket—recently escaped from his case—on a harrowing mission to rescue his fellow Guardians… but not before unleashing intergalactic mayhem in the process, from the top of the fortress to the bottom, and all to the tune of one of Star-Lord’s awesome mixtape songs!
Showcasing all-new special effects, appearances by popular characters, music inspired by the soundtracks from the films, and “big thrill” drop sequences with a free-fall sensation that’ll have you screaming for more, this is one adventure you won’t want to miss.
This is all part of Disney’s California Adventure’s Summer of Heroes, an event where the whole family can enjoy saving the day alongside some of Marvel’s greatest like Captain America, Black Widow, and Spider-Man. But if you don’t feel up to the task, don’t worry, they’ll provide some training to bring out your inner superhero in Hollywood Land,
Not too far off in Hollywood Land, you can also show off your dance skills by joining the Guardians of the Galaxy in a dance off with Star-Lord, Gamora, and Groot. Rock out to the classic rock songs where you are the hero.
TIP: This ride has a FASTPASS. I suggest getting to the park early and grabbing yours!
