Fourth grade has been a challenging year for my daughter. We switched her to a new school where she’s responsible for more than daily schoolwork. She went from an environment that encouraged no homework to one that instructs almost nightly work. She also began to second-guess her math abilities- a subject she loves. Every child is an individual who learn at their own pace but with pressures of standardized testing and excess amounts of homework it’s easy to see how some kids can fall behind. As I searched for ideas, I learned about Everly, an on-demand app (and website) offering one-on-one tutorial sessions at home for children K-12 seven days a week. I decided to schedule a session with them for my daughter to give her a jump on math practice. I visited www.geteverly.com and found the registration process quite seamless! Think of Everly as the Uber of tutoring!!
As an incentive, the first hour is free for every new customer! The www.geteverly.com website is user friendly and simple to navigate. The platform required a few fields to fill out such as my location, child’s grade level and subject. Then we were matched with tutors that suited our needs. Each tutor is experienced, and has graduated from top universities which I’m sure will give parents a piece of mind. Each tutor goes through a screening process and background check. The tutor we selected was Phorum. I watched her introductory video, read about her education as well as her hobbies. I scheduled the session with the tutor for the next day (same day sessions are available). I decided to meet at my local library vs home for our first visit. A confirmation email arrived and I touched based with Phorum by phone.
We met at the library and my daughter’s session went extremely well. We met Phorum in the children’s section at the library. We were free from distractions and I was able to observe the experience and pick out a few books for myself! Phorum was excited to meet with us. The comic character Archie turned into an ice breaker for this meeting. My daughter was reading an Archie comic book when Phorum arrived and she shared that Archie was her favorite comic strip at home. What a fun moment! The two hit the books and it only took our Everly tutor a couple of minutes to figure out where Teagan was in her studies. We planned out in advance what we wanted help with so it helped to have a focus. Phorum was encouraging, patient and complimented my daughter on her strengths and helped her create some strategies to stay organized and meet her goals. Phorum also shared some things that helped her as a child as well as things that she wished her parents did a little differently regarding her studies. I appreciated the ideas that she shared so I can support my daughter at my home. Phorum is a graduate from UCLA and hopes to be an astronaut. It was cool seeing my daughter spend time with a young educated woman who is reaching for the stars! Phorum was a nice role-model and it was nice interacting with someone in real life vs a computer!
School stress is tough for kids as well as parents. No need to stress when trying to arrange support for the kids when they need the extra help. Everly is a good option if you are looking for one-on-one tutoring in the privacy of your home. Arrange recurring visits with your tutor or any time your child needs solid academic support.
Everly was created by twin brothers Mark and Michael Berookim to give parents a unique, on-demand educational experience for their families. The Berookim brothers are focused on improving academics and delivering successful large scale tutoring programs using innovation and technology. They are changing the landscape of tutoring. Everly will be more than a K-12 tutoring provider. Additional services and lessons may include: online tutors, test prep, college students, music lessons, babysitters, etc.
