Available on the Blu-ray™ and Blu-ray™ 3D Combo Packs for the Ultimate Experience and on the DVD Double Pack from Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Our Saturdays are reserved for family movie nights. My daughter is at an age where she loves (and can sit through) movies. This is one event where we can laugh together and pig out on popcorn together! What was on the marquee for us this past weekend? Despicable Me.
The story is about Gru (Steve Carell), #1 Supervillian trying to keep his rank by plotting his biggest mission ever! Steal the moon. But stealing the moon is no easy feat when a younger, hungrier super-villian named Vector (Jason Segal) is giving Gru a run for his money. Gru encounters a trio of orphaned girls who unknowingly assist in accessing the most important part in his quest-steal the shrink ray from Vector.
You can’t help but to root for the bad guy in this film. Gru is evil but charming. Gru’s always dreamed about going to the moon but was subjected to an apathetic mother. Gru’s flashbacks of his mom belittling and dismissing his dreams were so sad to watch. I’m sure that there are adults out there who can relate to Gru and his (non) relationship with his mom. Note to self: Be your child’s number one fan.
Gru’s quest for his mom’s approval and being #1 Supervillian gets turned around when he becomes a single dad to Margo, Edith and Agnes. Gru and the girl’s lives change forever.
Despicable Me offers plenty of laughs, lessons, heart and fantastic animation. Steve Carell nails it as the lovable libertine and Russel Brand and Christine Wig were brilliant vocal co-stars. They were so convincing that I never once thought about the actors themselves. BTW, my daughter loved the peculiar army of charming Minions! I hope we’ll see more from them in the future.
Don’t wind up in the “Box of Shame”. Pick up Despicable Me on Blu-Ray or DVD. We love this movie!

I have been wondering about this movie and if it would be a good choice for my 3 year old. Now I can’t wait to watch it with her. Thanks for sharing =)
I took my 5 year old son to see this Despicable Me in the theater. We both loved it! It is cute, funny and heartwarming. My son loved the super hero versus the villain aspect of the film as he is really into super heros. There were a few scenes with the little girls that brought tears to my eyes. It was truly one of the best animated films I have seen in a long time and am planning on buying the DVD.
I seen this movie on my flight to NYC in Nov. It is a very cute movie for the kids!
awesome review! I actually had NO desire to see this movie based on the promos they ran…but this actually sounds super cute….and my daughter has been begging for us to rent it…so I’m SOLD! thanks!
I need to get a Blu ray player so I can watch this. I love Steve Carell and the story line of this movie looks so good!

Best movie EVER! This is one of our family favorites. I’ll be buying the Blu Ray version!

I’ve been wondering about this movie and whether my 4-year-old would like it… it sounds like it would be a lot of fun for all of us!
We also watch movies every weeked and last weekend we saw this for the first time. My oldest daughter (just turned 6) wants to watch this every night.. SPOILER:
My youngest (4) started crying when Gru wasn’t at the dance recital. It was really sweet to see how much they got into this movie! My husband and I loved it too – it’s not just for kids! 🙂
LOVE Steve Carrell and have heard great things about this movie. I wasn’t sure how appropriate it would be for my 3 year old granddaughter, but it looks that way-so thanks for the review!
OMG we LOVE this movie! I mean LOVE< LOVE< LOVE! Gru is the best "bad" guy ever!
Great review. We can’t wait to see this. Hopefully our library has it soon.
