Spring is finally here, and we can celebrate with a beautiful holiday filled with bunnies, candy, egg hunts and Easter baskets. Easter is one of my daughter’s favorite days. She looks forward to waking up and hunting for those pastel-colored plastic eggs. Honestly, none of us should outgrow the fun of the Easter bunny, even when we stop believing. It’s a day for being together, having fun and creating memories. That being said, sometimes the candy situation gets out of control. I’m not anti-candy, but I do try to balance out the goodies with non-sugary treats.
Gnomeo and Juliet was one of our favorite (an underrated film if you ask me) animations. Sir Elton John fabulously does the soundtrack and the clinking of ornamental garden gnomes is just irresistibly adorable! The sequel to the film is Sherlock Gnomes. The gnomes are back but this time need help from Sherlock Gnomes when some of their gnome friends go missing. The movie inspired me to get crafty with my Easter basket fillings. I designed wooden gnome peg people that will be the perfect accompaniment to my daughter’s jellybeans and Cadbury Mini-Eggs.
I did this craft on my own, and I think it would be a fun Spring craft to do with your kids.
Supplies:
Wooden Peg Doll (I purchased mine from Michaels)
Felt
Tacky Glue/E6000
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
Scissors
Start off by painting your peg gnomes face. I added two eyes and a tiny mouth. You can leave the face blank if you choose. It’s really up to you. The body can be painted a solid color or add images. I decided to paint my girl gnome with a spring theme.
Make the hats with felt. I cut a piece of felt into a triangle shape. You can sew or glue the edges to make a cone. I also added a line of glue inside of the cone to adhere to the head of the peg.
With the boy gnome, I added a felt beard and painted his body blue.
You’re done! Place these cuties in your child’s Easter basket or you could also put the gnomes in a small basket on their own on top of a bed of green plastic grass. Super cute!
