“The Batman,” “The Flash,” “Black Adam,” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” all hit theaters later this year. That’s an unusual amount of cinematic DC content to be released in one year. Which is exciting for fans considering how their other comic book rivals dominate year after year. And now we are getting a sneak peek at what Warner Bros. has in store for us in a special online spot that highlights the aforementioned titles and teases our first look at a couple of new heroes.
In the special DC Heroes TV spot, we that runs for about a minute opens with Selina Kyle aka Catwoman (Zoe Kravtiz), asking Batman (Robert Pattinson) who he is beneath the mask. Of course we all know the answer to that question, but it leads to something bigger. Much bigger. Our first look at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam.
During the Black Adam portion of the trailer, we hear the titular character speak of how his son dreamt of a better world, and how he saved him. Attack helicopters appear before Black Adam, whose garmnets look like they’ve been tattered and torn. But as to whom he’s speaking to, that remains unclear.
The footage then moves to “The Flash,” who appears to be wearing a spiffy new costume that glows yellow against the red suit. In what appears to be some inspiration from the “Flashpoint” story arc, we overhear how the Flash could use his speed to go to any timeline and how the universe might fight to save this one. The voiceover sounds oddly a lot like Michael Keaton’s Batman, who may have more of a mentor role to the young Flash, who is seen right outside of his childhood home where his beloved mother was killed.
After that, we move on to ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” where the title character, also in a new suit, stands in front of an ancient temple and asks, “what could be greater than a king?” Aquaman then answers his own question with: “A hero.”
A montage of clips from the films slated to be released this year then zip by. And flashes of title heroes standing in front of the DC title card then appear. But it doesn’t stop there. “I just got goosebumps,” says Quintessa Swindell’s Cylcone. That was followed by an appearance from Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). A tag that reads “The world needs heroes then” appears on screen, with a couple of teases of Aldis Hodge as Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan). The latter requests that Black Adam come with the rest of the Justice Society, a precursor to the Justice League, because “it’s a glorious world out there” that’s waiting for him.
And as the trailer cresnedos, it ends with The Flash asking us: “are you in?”
But before we can answer any of that, here’s the lowdown on the release dates for these films.
“The Batman” drops first on March 4, followed by “Black Adam” which hits theaters on July 29. After that “The Flash” races to theaters on November 4. And “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” closes the year with a December 16 release. And remember, all of that comes this year.
