After two consecutive summers without a San Diego Comic-Con, due to the pandemic, CCI has made the decision to hold an in-person event. Comic-Con Special Edition will occur on November 26-28, 2021, over the Thanksgiving weekend. Tickets to attend this event will go on sale Saturday, September 25 at 11am (PDT).
Comic-Con Special Edition will be quite a bit different, as it is not intended to be a large gathering reflective of SDCC. Reduced attendance, shorter in the number of days, and much smaller scale.
Some aspects will be reminiscent of early SDCC of years past. Halls G and H will be used as the staging area for Attendee Registration. The majority of the Special Edition will be confined within the walls of the San Diego Convention Center, with the exception of some events at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.
There does not seem to be any information on special guests, panels and exhibitors on the site as of yet. These should be announced and available as the event gets closer. However, after the delay of the planned construction and opening of the Comic-Con Museum in 2020, there will be a limited opening of the Comic-Con Museum on Friday, November 26, 2021 and a grand opening scheduled in July 2022.
Their hotel reservation page is up, with special room rates. Link to page is here. Due to this event occurring over the Thanksgiving weekend, I’m not sure how difficult it will be to get a room or what the pricing will be during this time.
Tickets go on sale Saturday, September 25 at 11am (PDT). To purchase your badges, you will need your Member ID and last name. Login between 10am and 11am to enter the Queue-It waiting room. At 11am, purchasers in the waiting room will be randomly sorted and badge sales will begin shortly thereafter. Badge sale information is here.
While you must enter prior to 11am (PDT), there is no need to rush to the waiting room at 10am (PDT)! Early arrival does not provide any advantage over those who arrive later than you. We suggest that you enter the waiting room 10 – 15 minutes before 11am (PDT) to avoid unnecessary wait times.
Keep in mind that there are more eligible attendees than available badges. Not everyone who enters the waiting room may be selected for a registration session. You can increase your chance of obtaining a badge by reading all the instructions here and having your personal information ready on the day of the sale.
COVID protocols will be in place and requirements for everyone in attendance to follow while attending the event.
In addition to following current healthcare and governmental guidelines, everyone attending Comic-Con Special Edition will be required to wear an approved face covering regardless of vaccination status. Face coverings should completely cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly against the sides of the face, and not have any gaps.
In compliance with California state and local public health guidelines, everyone will be required to provide verification of full vaccination status or proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of each day of attending the event to enter Comic-Con Special Edition.
Please note: these policies apply to all attendee groups, including but not limited to exhibitors, guests, staff, press, professionals, volunteers, and cosplayers.
Please be aware that adjustments may need to be made to policies and guidelines during the event in order to ensure the health and safety of all attendee groups.
