After spending 48 years playing alongside the Muppets, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem embark on their greatest adventure yet, creating their first studio album. And the latest trailer for the new Disney+ series “The Muppets Mayhem” teases a lot of the meta-comedy styles but with a modern-day music-making twist.
The Muppets has always had their finger on the pulse when it comes to what’s popular today, like going viral on TikTok, music collaborations with today’s chart topping artists, starting beef with rival music artists, and, of course, surprise cameos.
Apparently, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem got a little sidetracked in the 80s, which prevented them from making a music album. But that didn’t stop them from being a musical influence on artists and groups like Motlëy Cruë’s Tommy Lee, Lil Nas X, Chris Stapleton, and more. Then there’s Tommy Lee recalling the crazy nights he had with the group.
It’s not clear if any of the other Muppets will appear considering that the series will be more about the group, which consists of Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar and Zoot on saxophone, with Animal on Drums, and Floyd and Zoot joining later.
Additionally, celebrity special guest and cameos include Paula Abdul, Steve Aoki, David Bizarro, Rachel Bloom, Nicole Byer, Sofia Carson, Charlamagne Tha God, Tommy Chong, Billy Corgan, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, deadmau5, Desiigner, Colton Dunn Morgan Freeman, Susanna Hoffs, James Hong, Jennifer Irwin. Karamo, Kesha, Riki Lindhome, Cheech Marin, Ziggy Marley, Jack McBrayer, Arden Myrin, Nico Santos, Kristen Schaal, Ben Schwartz, Ryan Seacrest, Kevin Smith, Danny Trejo, Joe Lo Truglio, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Cedric Yarbrough, and Zedd.
Based on characters created by Jim Henson, the Disney+ Original series from Disney Branded Television is produced by ABC Signature and The Muppets Studio. The project was developed and written by executive producers Adam F. Goldberg (“The Goldbergs”), Bill Barretta (“The Muppets,” “Muppets Haunted Mansion”) and co-executive producer Jeff Yorkes. Michael Bostick, Kris Eber and The Muppets Studio’s David Lightbody and Leigh Slaughter also serve as executive producers. Original music by executive music producer and Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry.
“The Muppets Mayhem” debuts exclusively on Disney+ on May 10, 2023. Also, the soundtrack will be available on streaming platforms beginning May 10, and the band’s debut album, “The Electric Mayhem,” is set for release on vinyl on May 12.
