The Yumbox is an interesting bento lunchbox. It is lightweight and compact. Fits perfectly in a standard size tote, lunch bag, backpack or messenger bag. It has a unique lid and removable compartment tray.
Every so often I keep my eyes open for new or interesting lunch containers. Some have a pretty cool design, but lack the functionality I like. Yumbox looks like a fun alternative.
I tried out the Yumbox Panino. Depending on the type of bread loaf you use for your sandwich, it may not fit in the large compartment. For example, round sourdough or ciabatta loaf have unusual shapes/sizes. But the sandwich I made using a small round sourdough loaf fit perfectly at a slight angle.
The seal on the leak proof lid works really well. I had a sandwich, salad, apple slices and bit of corn with butter in the dip/treat well. I had the Yumbox in my backpack which got jumbled a little bit. But the liquid from the corn stayed in its own compartment.
Clean up is easy since the compartment tray is removable and you don’t really need to clean the exterior of the Yumbox as often, unless there was spillage or became dirty.
It comes in so many colors: Yumbox and Yumbox Panino (9 colors), Yumbox MiniSnack (3 colors). Even the compartment trays have some fun designs. I kinda like the Paris Map design.

The 6-compartment Yumbox is perfectly designed for younger children (toddlers-age 8) or picky-eaters. Smaller compartments for smaller portions and bite size snack pieces. Holds five 1/2 cup portions plus the smaller dip/treat well.
The 4-compartment Yumbox Panino is designed for older children and adults. This can hold a sandwich, with crusts on, or salad, sides and snack. The sandwich/salad section can hold one 2 cup portion, while the two sides sections can hold 1/2 cup portions each and the dip/treat well can hold a 1 oz. portion.
The 3-compartment Yumbox MiniSnack is just perfect for a person that is on-the-go or active outdoors. Large food compartment holds 3/4 cup portion, small food well holds 1/3 cup portion plus there is a smaller dip/treat well.
Unique Design
The Yumbox features a molded silicone, leakproof single lid. This lid is only compatible with compartment trays being used by the same box. Lid is designed to hold wet foods but not liquids, such as water. So applesauce or yogurt is fine, as long as it isn’t too watery. Soup or dressing is not recommended. The removable compartment makes it easy to clean.
