The 2024 Golden Globe Awards recognized the best in TV and Film on Sunday night. While “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” and “Succession” were winners, “Poor Things” and “The Bear” also earned top honors.
Opphenimer won five awards, including Best Motion Picture, Drama, with Robert Downey Jr taking home Best Supporting Actor, Drama and Cillian Murphy winning Best Actor, Drama. Christopher Nolan took home his first Golden Globe for directing the biographical epic, and Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score.
“Barbie” had two wins. One was for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement – a brand new category that recognizes a film’s box office achievement. Directed by Greta Gerwig, “Barbie” earned $1.44 billion at the global box office, making it the 14th highest-grossing film of all time and one of the highest-grossing films to be directed by woman. The film’s “What Was I Made For?” written by Billie Eilish O’Connell and Finneas O’Connell, won Best Song.
“Poor Things” upset “Barbie” twice with a win for Best Motion Picture Comedy, while Emma Stone won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
On the TV side of things, “Succession” won four awards. Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, and Sarah Snook won their respective acting categories, and the series won the top award for Best Television Series – Drama.
