Zachary Levi, the star of upcoming Warner Bros. and DC Films “Shazam!”, briefly chatted to the press about the superhero film while promoting his new holiday film “The Star”. Levi shared some exclusive information with That’s It LA about his role in the 2019 film directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle, Lights Out):
I am beyond humbled that I get to be a part of it. It is completely life-changing. It hasn’t even changed my life yet but I know how life-changing it will be that it is. And I know that these roles are few and far between and I know that–as much as I can say–I know that I’ve worked hard in this business and I’ve been doing this for about 20 years. I don’t know that you’re really deserving of such a blessing. I hope to do it justice. I hope to do the character justice–everyone in the cast and crew, I want to go be a leader for and with them. And the fans justice and go have fun. It’s going to be like the movie ‘Big’ but with superpowers. I’m super stoked like Tom Hanks in ‘Big’ was one of my favorite roles in movies ever and I now get to kind of follow a little bit in those footsteps. And do all the cool superhero stuff. I’m like: WHHHHAAAAT!”
Recently, Asher Angel was recently cast as the young Billy Batson who gets the ability to become a superhero when he exclaims the word “SHAZAM!” during a time of need, turning him into the iconic DC superhero to fight the forces of evil. Shazam is an anagram for a grouping of mythological heroes and grants Batson the ability to wield gifts like the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and speed of Mercury.
And while yes, Dwayne Johnson is playing Black Adam, Shazam’s arch-nemesis, he’s actually going to be appearing in “Suicide Squad 2” and maybe not “Shazam!” as per online current reports state. This film’s villain will be played by Mark Strong.
Shazam! will be out 2019!
