What’s not to love about Captain Marvel? The action is breathtaking, Samuel Jackson always brings laughs, and Brie Wilson kicks ass as the newest female superhero. Plus, she’s relatable and witty. The music soundtrack features massive hits from the 90s reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy’s spot-on soundtracks. Also, Captain Marvel is a perfect family film. Girls and boys will be inspired by this strong female lead. Plus, Goose the cat was the cherry on top! Here are all the reasons why I loved the film:
Friendship – There’s a strong theme of friendship in the movie, and it’s refreshing to see women working together, building each other up and looking out for each other. Brie Wilson, who plays Carol Jones, while Lashana Lynch takes on Maria Rambeau. The chemistry between the two women is real and its obvious they developed a friendship off screen.
Backstory – We learn who Carol Danvers (aka Vers) and how the name Vers comes to be. We learn about her powers, how she met Nick Fury and we see a de-aged Fury and Agent Coulson. There’s a ton of back story and hints in this film so try to keep up!
90s flashback – I’m a sucker for a well done nostalgic movie. Going back to the 90s worked in this film, and the soundtrack is spot on! TLC, Smashing Pumpkins and No Doubt to name a few but, the stuff that made me laugh were the painful technology moments I remember so well like dial-up internet, pay phones, and beepers!? How did we all survive back then without our smartphones and Netflix? Funny Stuff!
Goose the Cat – The newest media star has looks, attitude, and skills. Reggie, the cat actor, does a purr-fect job portraying Goose (Reggie had 3 backups-Read more here). Goose is actually a Flerkin who winds up with a big scene that fills in a blank. You’ll have to see the film to find out more!!
The action sequences are extensive from car chases and fights on top of a speeding train. But for me, the mind-blowing scenes were the ones that took place in space. I find some of the most compelling moments are the ones where Captain Marvel dons her space helmet and saves the universe!
Monica – She is Maria Rambeau’s daughter is she is fascinated with her Carol and obviously looks up to her. With Monica’s help, she helps Carol remember her past. Monica tells Fury and Carol that maybe one day she’ll go to outer space and Danvers says perhaps you will. Just a reminder to encourage children to follow their dreams! This was a minor moment in the film, but I think it might lead to bigger things for Monica!
Lastly, there are two moments dedicated to the beautiful Stan Lee. RIP.
CAPTAIN MARVEL IS IN THEATERS NOW!
