Hello Kitty stores are few and far between in South Florida, so my girls were especially excited when they found out that Sanrio Surprises would be opening at Promenade at Coconut Creek, outdoor mall near our house. Sadly, we missed the opening day, where Hello Kitty made a special appearance. The store itself it super-cute with massive, bright pink chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The store has several sections, with backpacks and lunchboxes in one area, purses and totes in another section and every possible Sanrio character and accessory. The girls all had a fantastic time checking out the totes, overnight bags and purses, with prices in the area of $65 for the larger bags and $30 for the smaller, shoulder bags. I have to admit, I was a fan of the pink patent leather bag for $75 – so cute! They have a fantastic assortment of backpacks, lunch boxes and lunch containers as well – too bad they missed the back to school rush, I’m sure they girls would have traded in their plain-Jane lunch boxes for a Hello Kitty one. The containers vary in price from about $5 and up, to about $20 for lunchboxes, some of which come with small, reusable containers. They have traditional backpacks, but my girls really liked the plush, character backpacks that were about $36 – they were colorful, cute and being a mom, I’m sure I could toss them into the washing machine and hang dry, so they were something that seemed right up our alley.
Having girls, who always seem to “need” something, pretty much every single store that we walk into, I was curious to see if they would have any items for the more spend-conscious moms. Happily, right when you walk in the door, they’ve got a great selection of Sanrio candies for parents who are okay with dropping a quarter for a piece of gum. The pyramid of pencils, pens and erasers definitely caught my eye, and with so many choices, it took my girls plenty of time to check them all out and finally select something falling with the $5 I had given each of them.
Sanrio Surprises also hosts Hello Pretty – Hello Kitty Makeover Parties, which my girls quickly grabbed a flyer for to check out. In a section of the store separated by an awesome Hello Kitty mural, you can choose from three different experiences, all including nail polish applications, a take-home makeup palette, goodies and a touch of glitter – everything to make little girls giddy for Hello Kitty! The Express Makeover is $19 per person, and includes makeup, nail polish and one goody, but it isn’t available for parties. I have to admit is too bad, because for the price, it’s pretty affordable, especially if your princess wants to share the experience with several friends. The Party Package is $29 per person and includes a hair-do with accessory, makeup, nail polish and three goodies. The Deluxe Package for $39 per person, is the all-out party choice with a hair-do with accessory, makeup, nail polish, three goodies and glittery Sanrio Surprises t-shirts for everyone. They can hold birthday cakes there, but unfortunately, you’re not allowed to eat in the store. There are several different restaurants within the mall, as well as a chain ice cream store, and cupcake/frozen yogurt shop all within a few two minute walk, so the party could easily continue. All in all, it’s a very cute, super-girly store, mostly special occasion shop, and I’m sure we’ll have to pop in pretty much every single time we’re at Promenade at Coconut Creek. Luckily, there are plenty of shops there for me too!

I love Sanrio–and I’m a grown woman. It’s just so fun! And pink!
I loved your review of this Sanrio store. I am going tomorrow and I can’t wait.
I have a friend who lives in that place and she is really a big fun of that kitty. I need to show this to her. She will be so happy if she sees that shop.
