Explore the Marvel Cinematic Universe through six Marvel Studios films in LEGO Marvel’s Avengers.
This is the first videogame to feature storylines from the critically-acclaimed film Marvel’s Avengers and the hit sequel Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as playable content based on the Marvel Studios blockbuster films, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Players start off the game using the core Avengers team of Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man at the beginning of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the next chapters of the game you will be able to play as Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, James Buchanan Barnes (Bucky), Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Agent Coulson and more. There are more than 200 characters to unlock, with over 100 new characters that have not appeared in a LEGO videogame before.
Features include:
• New Avengers Team-Up Moves which execute incredible combos when using the core Avengers.
• Unique open world gameplay with eight different environments to explore within the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Streets of Marvel’s New York, Asgard, Barton’s Farm, Malibu, the S.H.I.E.L.D. Base Exterior, Sokovia, South Africa and Washington D.C.
• Brand new game mechanics allowing Hulk to super jump off skyscrapers, Quicksilver to speed run over water or even play as giant characters like the menacing Fin Fang Foom.
• Stud multiplier increases your stud count in combat as you continue to defeat enemies.
• Character customization with the ability to create your own LEGO Super Hero.
• An open world Manhattan will be available for fans to play for the first time on handheld consoles.
This game expands on the 2013, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and makes a better game based on the films. The storyline has a good flow and begins at the start of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron movie, then interweaves as flashbacks into Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger and so on.
The voice tracks are taken straight from the films, with some additional vocal tracks recorded just for the game by some of the actors. The cut scenes recreated in LEGO form are much funnier and amusing than the real scenes from the films. Just like in all the Marvel films, Stan Lee makes appearances in some of the levels… if you can find him. Finding him is one of the goal achievements when you complete a level.
Much like all the LEGO games, you will have to play the levels over again using different character combinations to complete goals, like finding all the Gold Bricks in the level or trying to unlock all the Marvel characters. This creates a lot of replay value even after you have played through the entire game once.
I encountered one problem during my gameplay. During the Captain America level where you play as Captain America and Bucky Barnes, one of my characters got stuck under a pile of rubble, on a bridge, that had fallen from the ceiling. I could not get out from under the rubble no matter what I did. Tried to jump, attack, switch characters and die, but none of it worked to get me out. I had to quit and restart the level to escape the glitch.
Being a Marvel fan, I love this LEGO game more than LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Not only can you play through the six Marvel films, but there is DLC packs based on upcoming Marvel Studios films Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and Marvel’s Ant-Man. The Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass features content packs based on Marvel properties, including Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Masters of Evil.
LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is rated E 10+ (Everyone 10+) and available now for Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC/Steam.
