Disney has released the first teaser trailer for “Tron: Ares.” The highly anticipated third installment in the groundbreaking “TRON” franchise. “TRON: Ares” is a follow-up to Disney’s 1982 seminal science fiction film, “TRON” and the 2010 sequel, “TRON: Legacy.”

The brief teaser trailer doesn’t offer much in terms of plot details, but gives us a glimpse of what happens when worlds collider. In it, we see the emergence of A.I. programs in the real world and how their enchanced technology causes chaos for humanity. Lightcycles using their light ribbons to slice police cars in half, while light jets project light ribbons to defend Recognizer against missile attacks.
It’s an impressive display of VFX and lighting set against the darkness of a city at night. What’s more, we get to hear from Jeff Bridges, a fixture of the Tron franchise, having appeared in all three films. The trailer indicates that a newly rendered Ares (played by Jared Leto) is about to embark on a journey to the real world. Although we never see Bridges, he is heard asking Ares if he is ready because their is no going back.
We also get to see glimpses of Greta Lee reacting to Recongizers appearing in the city.
The cast also includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Sarah Desjardins, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro and Gillian Anderson.
The trailer also revealed that Nine Inch Nails would be composing the score for the film. That bit of news was revealed during the D23 Expo last year. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ film compositions have earned multiple Oscar nominations and wins throughout the years, and their sonic work that can be heard in films like “The Social Network,” “Soul,” and “Challengers” fits perfectly into a film like “Tron: Ares.”‘
The feature film is directed by Joachim Rønning, with Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook and Steven Lisbergerserving as producers, with Russell Allen serving as executive producer.
Disney’s “TRON: Ares” releases in U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025.
