Lucasfilm has finally released the first trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” the next Star Wars movie hitting theaters. It marks the franchise’s return to the big screen six years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker seemed to end the Skywalker Saga. Since then, fans have only seen Star Wars spinoffs and Disney+ series, but now “The Mandalorian and Grogu” are leading a brand-new adventure on film.

Naturally, many are wondering why go through with a film instead of having a season 4. But as Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu’s adventures grow, it only makes sense that the size and scope of their stories—and the visuals—grow along with them. As such, Lucasfilm is positioning The Mandalorian and Grogu as the next cinematic chapter of Star Wars, bringing the duo’s journey to theaters where the scale can match the ambition.
The teaser trailer leans into a bit of nostalgia with a few quick clips of the Razor Crest, Naboo Star Fighters, and U-Wing, along with that classic wolf and cub dynamic between Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and a very cute Grogu going on adventures that include scoping out an Empire stronghold, meeting with Ward (Sigourney Weaver), Babu Frik, the use of Ludwig Gorasson’s iconic score, Din fighting looks like a Rancor, and Zeb crawling on the ceiling as he’s being fired upon by enemies.
But there are a few other things to take note of as well. There’s Jeremy Allen White’s Rotta the Hutt as he excites a crowd looking for a good underground fight. As you can imagine it’s something that you’d typically find in a seedy underbelly of the galaxy. And to close out the trailer, Din and Grogu as seen flying out of an exploding AT-AT which then falls over a cliff.
True to form for any teaser trailer, we don’t get much of a story. It’s been two years since we last saw Din and Grogu as the latter has now become Din’s apprentice.
Directed by Jon Favreau, “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” also stars Sigourney Weaver and is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.
“The Mandalorian and Grogu” hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
