Since its splashy debut in 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy has become one of the most popular Marvel Studio films to date. And now, they are about to expand the MCU in a very festive way with the release of “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.”
James Gunn returns for the third time to direct the latest Guardians of the Galaxy adventure which is being billed as a Marvel Studios Special Presentation. In it, Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is not is usual chipper self since Gamora left him after the events of Avengers: Endgame. In an attempt to cheer him up, Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) head to Earth to give him the ultimate Christmas gift: Kevin Bacon – who has appeared in Gunn’s “Super.”
And the last time we saw the Guardians was when they were with Thor, who seemingly invited himself to be a part of the rattag crew as they traveled across the galaxy saving one planet after another. The special is also said to be an important link to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” also stars Karen Gillian and Sean Gunn, and features the voice talents of Vin Diesel as Groot and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and special appearances made by The Old 97’s with Michael Rooker. And Cosmo will be there too.
With Michael Giacchino’s “Werewolf by Night” being a critical success, it will be interesting to see how audiences react to Marvel’s newest special presentation, which is more or less like Disney+’s LEGO Star Wars holiday specials. If anything, the special is in good hands considering that it was written and directed by Gunn.
But the festivities aren’t concerented just on Drax and Mantis, it looks like the entire gang will try to introduce the holiday spirit across the galaxy, as noted by Rocket decorating a room with Christmas lights and Groot wearing a red ribbon. And of course, there will be snow and ugly Christmas sweaters too.
“The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” makes its debut on November 25, 2022, exclusively on Disney+.
