The Angry Birds Movie Premiere
Angry Birds, the gaming franchise hit by Rovio Entertainment, has been a smash for years! My favorite game is Angry Birds Rio. I won’t admit how many hours I have clocked perfecting my slingshot maneuvers, but I will say it is the only game I’ve completed (EVER).
Other favorite games in our household include Angry Birds Star Wars (my husband completed this one while he was touring Europe) and Angry Birds Go (my daughter and I love playing this on the iPad)!
The time has finally come to see our non-flying-feathered friends explode on the big screen. Sony Pictures Animation/Columbia Pictures and Rovio Entertainment’s animated film, The Angry Birds Movie will be in theaters on May 20th, 2016!
Over the weekend, stars and guests flocked to the Regency Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of the film. Jason Sudeikis (Red), Josh Gad (Chuck), Bill Hader (Leonard), Maya Rudolph (Matilda), along with musician Blake Shelton, who performs the movie’s single ” Friends”, were in attendance. I heard Gwen Stefani was in the house, but I missed her. Guests were treated to fun games, good food and the opportunity to interact with live animals. How cute are these piglets?? But I think everyone’s favorite was giving the massive slingshot a try! We had to duck a few times to avoid getting hit by a flying stuffed Angry Bird! Blake Sheldon seemed to be a master at it!!

My daughter has been dying to see the film and she wasn’t disappointed. I always gauge the success of a film’s humor by my daughter’s laughter. She has been known to laugh out loud in theaters, which is quite contagious. She thought the film was really amusing and entertaining. My inquiring mind has always wondered, why is Red (by far the angriest), Bomb, Chuck and the other birds so angry? We get Red’s back story – he is really just a misunderstood bird. And we learn why the birds want to take out Leonard and his army of piggies!! My favorite part of the movie was when the birds finally show off their individual skills! One of my favorite birds from the brand is The Green Bird (he spins back like a boomerang). I cheered when he appeared on the screen (I know, I’m a nerd). But Red is by far my favorite, eyebrows, bitterness and all!
The after party was rocking. My daughter won prizes, jumped in bounce houses, hit up the tattoo stand with her friend AND we met the star of the film, Jason Sudeikis. I have to give props to Jason for meeting so many fans. He spent a good portion of the after party saying hi and taking photos with people. He really impressed me with the time he spent with guests. Jason is definitely not an Angry Bird but he was perfectly cast to voice Red.
See Angry Birds in theaters on May 20th. I still have two questions, why did it take so long to make the film and I still want to know why they can’t fly! Maybe we’ll find out in Angry Birds Movie 2?? =)
