Even though “The Addams Family” lasted only two seasons on network television, it has turned into an iconic franchise spawning a Broadway musical and numerous movies, all paying homage to the Addams clan.
MGM has modernized the creepy and kooky family whose black wardrobe puts mine to shame! Released just in time for Halloween, the animated “The Addams Family” is outstanding and captivating; this flick will get you and your family in the mood for spiders, noose-shaped pigtails and a speedy disembodied hand named Thing!
At its core, the Addams Family has always been about embracing differences and being there for your family no matter how demented they are!!
Moviegoers are introduced to Gomez and Morticia as they prepare their matrimonial vows only to be interrupted by ignorant villagers who chase them out of town. Mortician and Gomez set off to find a new home, one where no sane person would venture: New Jersey.
Once in New Jersey they conveniently come across an abandoned insane asylum and realize that this mansion is their “Happily ever after” home. We fast forward to two kids later; Morticia and Gomez are discovering the challenges of raising their tweens.
Young Wednesday wants to know what exists beyond the solemn gates of their home. She no longer wants to be homeschooled and would like to torment the kids at junior high. Morticia and her go head to head on the topic.. Morticia is concerned because they’ve never really been accepted by their neighbors. But it’s time for Wednesday to discover the great big world.
There’s another problem afoot: one day the fog clears and a new town is planned which dramatically changes the Addams’ family lives. .; Creator and TV host Margaux wants to remodel the Addams home in order to sell more homes in a pastel master planned community. We see her villainous ways as she secretly created a social media campaign to take down the Addams.
Every member of the Addams family have their moments with witty lines including Lurch: “You rang?” Cousin It is also a joy to watch – he’s a furry character voiced by Snoop Dog with silly hair, a cane and a sweet ride.
But Wednesday definitely steals the show. She’s bold, independent,questions authority and takes biology class to an electrifying level.
If you have a tween, you can understand rebellious kids and also realizing this is the age that our children start to pull away from us. As the mom of a 12-year-old, Morticia struggles with finding ways to let her daughter go. It’s a very relatable moment in the movie.
“The Addams Family” is a fun-filled adventure for all ages. The star-studded voice cast is top notch and hits all the right notes. Bette Midler lends her voice to grandma!
My daughter and I shared laughs and both enjoyed the film; no doubt, new generation of ghouls will be snapping fingers to celebrate uniqueness and family, no matter how ooky they are!
One last tip: Make sure you stay for the credits for Christina Aguilera song “Haunted Heart.” Her voice is impeccable, soulful and moody!
