Having two little kids growing up with technology is both exciting and a challenge. I am continually impressed with all the quality entertainment and learning apps available for them, but struggle frequently with limiting their “Tech Time”. Many mornings, I like to let the kids have 10-15 minutes with the iPad while I get breakfast (and myself) ready. I load up PBS Kids (or, should I say, my kids will load it up!) and then I get to work! I usually just open our smart cover and the kids will lean over it at the coffee or dining tables. This set-up doesn’t work for many reasons. First, it creates a near daily power struggle between my 2.5 and 5-year-olds for who the iPad “gets to be in front of”. Second, it makes me cringe to see their posture hunched over the table like that! As a physical therapist, I know there are other options to make their viewing experience more ergonomic when they are streaming videos.
I was recently sent the Klick Desk Stand for iPad by The Joy Factory to test out. It brings the iPad up to eye level. Importantly, you can also easily adjust it, even with the iPad attached. It’s swivel attachment allows for unlimited viewing angles in an up/down and rotational orientations (it does not swivel side to side, but you can easily move the base if that’s an issue).
The Klick comes unassembled in three parts: the iPad case, the stand (with swivel attachment) and the base. Snapping the hard plastic case was a cinch, but I did struggle with getting the stand into the base initially. I ultimately had to get my body weight behind it, placing the base on the floor and using a whole lot of leverage to click the stand into place. Getting the iPad onto the stand was, thankfully, a breeze.
Once assembled, it looks like a little iMac. All I need now is the wireless keyboard and I’ll have my portable mini desktop ready to go! This is a great Back to School gift for all your tech-loving kids. I’ve also been using it quite frequently in the kitchen as my high-tech cookbook stand. Epicurious and Pinterest recipes are easier for me to view now, and I get my precious iPad off the counter, minimizing any accidental spills onto it. The Klick Desk Stand also works with all of The Joy Factory’s Klick line of products (see their website for details on the Klick Wall Mount and Klick Kick Stand). The iPad case also works with my existing Smart Cover.
The Klick Desk Stand is available for $59.95 on The Joy Factory’s website.
