Being in the audience of a game show was on my bucket list when I moved to Hollywood 11 years ago! Since then, I’ve attended a ton of game shows as well as late-night talk shows. They are so fun to be a part of and are usually free to attend! Now my bucket list idea has gone to a new level: visiting a TV set and sitting down with a show’s leading stars for a chat. I recently had the fabulous opportunity to visit the set of ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey staring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence.
About:
Melissa & Joey premiered in 2010 and is gearing up for their fourth season! The show airs on Wednesday nights and the season premiere for season 4 is on January 14 8/7c. If you missed it, “Mel Burke” and “Joey Longo” got married at the end of the 3rd season.
Let’s rewind for those who may be new to the series- Mel is a local politician and comes from a political family. Her sister was involved in a scandal and Mel took-in her sister’s children. Mel needed her outside help to manage her new family additions and hired unemployed Joey as her “manny” to look after her niece and nephew.
On Set:
Once on set, I noticed that the furniture matched the color of the shows logo. Look for shades of yellow, reds and cornflake blues the next time you watch the show. The main rooms we walked through were the kitchen, dining room and living room. I loved entering Melissa & Joey’s home through the front door which led me to the casual living room. The sitting area is made up of a gorgeous light-colored tufted sofa, which was the centerpiece in the room. Did you notice that the accent pillows on the couch matched the yellow wall color and the blue club chair? The dining room has a mahogany dining table set sitting in front of a cute office nook. I like the idea of a chalkboard to write inspiration messages for the family! The chicken has that same blue shade and has a fun bay window. Shelby Barone (ocmomblog.com) and I even got to sit in their “backyard” for a quick chat.
The sets have a ton of detail to give the living quarters a realistic look but are way cleaner and organized than my home. The fridge door included a photo of the kids next to fun magnets. I also noticed that the framed photos in the living room were of the show’s actors. I don’t mean to burst the Hollywood magic bubble for you but most of the stairwells that you see the cast walk up lead nowhere and the hallways are dead ends!I enjoyed my time on the set of Melissa & Joey! Thanks ABC Family!
