Del Taco is the first Mexican chain restaurant to offer Turkey Tacos. Guests now have the option to select turkey as a protein. The Turkey Tacos have 150 calories and offer 33% less fat then their beef counterpart. I participated in a campaign to sample the tacos for myself! Eating at a fast food restaurant is a treat for my family and I have to admit that I am a huge fan of tacos. I was curious to see how these tacos stand up.
Turkey tacos can be ordered in a crunchy corn shell or flour tortilla. We, of course, ordered both. We also tried the Turkey CrunchTada. Here’s what we thought! The Turkey Tacos are topped with grated cheddar cheese, lettuce and pico de gallo. They definitely weren’t as greasy as a beef taco and they had a little bit of spice to them which I like! The tacos were really tasty and packed with flavor. I wished I compared them to a beef taco but I decided to focus on Turkey without confusing my tastebuds. I’m not sure if they are usually loaded with cheese but our servers didn’t skimp on the ingredients especially the cheese…I love cheese. Each taco is priced at $1.29 which is extremely reasonable. A Turkey Taco Meal is $5 and is 430 calories. The meal includes two tacos, chips, salsa and a drink. My husband gobbled his up and went for the CrunchTada. The tostada is topped with beans, seasoned ground turkey, grated cheddar, diced tomatoes, lettuce and taco sauce. It looks a little a mexican pizza and the flavor of the beans definitely stand out. We enjoyed the fresh taste and the shell didn’t fall apart and remained intact. I would to choose between a taco or tostada, I would go with the taco. The Turkey Taco was delicious!
I like that Del Taco offers fresh ingredients and their items are made to order. Expect freshly made pico de gallo, freshly-grated cheddar cheese and lard-free beans which are slow-cooked from scratch. My daughter enjoyed their crinkle-cut fries. I also had no idea that they offered shakes! Obviously this is fast food, so the turkey tacos are a healthier option but tacos generally aren’t a health food. I did like these and I would have a Turkey Taco again.
