The laws of time and space do not apply to someone like Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who shrewdly escaped his fate in “Avengers: Infinity War” by taking the Tesseract during the “Avengers” time heist in “Avengers: Endgame.” But as we are busying reminiscing, Disney just dropped their first trailer for the “Loki” series that is set to debut exclusively on Disney+.
Of course, we never knew where Loki went after he absconded with the Tesseract in tow during “Avengers: Endgame.” But considering he disrupted the flow of time, you can be sure beings, more powerful than the Asgardian god of mischief, will try to apprehend him.
And since time-travel was the very thing that aided in Loki’s escape, it only makes sense to have it serve as the central plot for his new show. In it, Loki has a run-in with the TVA (Time Variance Authority), a bureaucratic organization that oversees the flow of time. Loki sees the TVA as beneath him and has no problem showing contempt towards them. So the TVA shows how powerless he is by having him go through bureaucratic red tape because there is nothing more powerful than a demi-god than having to sign documents.
But instead of restoring the flow of time, the TVA seeks his aid to fix reality. So this new trailer gives us a better sense of who the TVA are and what they represent while also giving us a better idea of the overall plot. Additionally, it’s another show that spends more time developing a supporting character. And really, who doesn’t want to have more “Loki” in their lives?
We’ll just have to see if Loki can be a good TVA agent or if he will jump at the chance to stab someone in the back like he always does.
Here’s the official, albeit very brief plot synopsis to “Loki:”
Watch Loki—the imperious God of Mischief—who, after absconding with the Tesseract, is a fish-out-of-water when he lands in a world of trouble with the bureaucratic TVA (Time Variance Authority) in the brand-new trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Loki.”
“Loki” features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs “Loki,” and Michael Waldron is head writer.
“Loki” premieres exclusively on Disney+ on June 11, 2021.
