I love the Fall. When the temperature drops, I have this sudden urge to start baking! Now that I have kids, I’m always looking for new and fun ways for them to get excited about being in the kitchen with me, too. Nordic Ware has an extensive line of cookware, bakeware and kitchenware and offer fun shaped-pans that will definitely get the kids in the kitchen! We were sent three of their bakeware products for review: the Platinum Pumpkin Patch muffin pan, Pro-Cast Castle Bundt pan, and Pro-Cast Dinosaur Cakelette pan.
I love the details on each of the pans. It takes the guess-work out of decorating (especially for the artistically-challenged, such as myself). Just follow the contours to accent specific details with icing and it’ll look like you spent way more time than you did! I also love that they are non-stick, allowing my various-sized and shaped cakes to come out with ease (I did butter and flour, too, as the directions suggested). We went to grandma’s house, and in a marathon baking day, tested out all three pans.
Pumpkin Patch Muffin Pan
These muffins may be used individually, or join the halves to make a whole pumpkin. We tested it out with the recipe included on the packaging (Pumpkin Muffins with Cream Cheese Frosting). This was the first pan we tested, and there was definitely some user-error. We determined we didn’t butter the pan in all the ‘nooks and crannies’, and had some difficulty getting them out, loosing some of the detail along the way. With the other pans (which, the Castle Bundt has more detail), this was not an issue at all. Bottom line, it is important to pre-butter and flour with care. With Halloween around the corner, these would be so cute to put together to make mini jack-o-lanterns–perfect for a kids’ party! MSRP: $32.

I must admit, with how intricate the design is and being just one large unit (rather than individual cakes), if it didn’t slide easily out of the pan, it would have been a disaster! Thankfully, when I flipped it over, it slid right out, and we could move along to the finishing touches. I love the decorating suggestions that came with this–especially for Halloween. We made a quick trip to the neighborhood market and picked up some candy to decorate with. My three-year-old and I had a great time decorating the castle turrets with candy corn, putting some raisinette and Hershey Kisses “rocks” around the base of the castle, making marshmallow ghosts and accenting the doors and windows with some orange icing. It’s so versatile–other suggestions are making a “Sand Castle” or Winter-themed castle (complete with gumdrops, candy canes and more). MSRP: $32.
Dinosaur Cakelette Pan
Mini Triceratops, Stegosaurus, T-rex and Argentinosaurus (that last one was per my tot!) mini-cakes round out this fun pan. I had used a box cake mix (don’t tell my husband) for this one, and it made enough to fill two dino pans. Note the pan makes 8 dinosaurs, but only 5 are pictured. It was so easy… a perfect birthday party treat. MSRP: $32.
Nordic Ware is a family-owned American manufacturer, founded in 1946. They are best known for creating the original Bundt Pan, but also made their mark with producing a variety of ethnic bakeware such as the Rosette Iron and Ebleskiver Pan. In additional to their year-round staples, they also offer a great selection of seasonal and holiday pans.

The Nordic Ware site was not very easy to navigate; but I did find a Hearts cakelet and a Caterpillar cake pan that looked cute.
