The Guardians of the Galaxy are back!
Obviously.
Well not until May 5, 2017, but the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser trailer was just dropped and it looks freaking awesome. The run time on this teaser is only a minute and thirty-five seconds and doesn’t reveal a lot about the sequel or the storyline, but it is so good.
The teaser trailer shows the entire gang is back for the sequel:
• Star-Lord – Chris Pratt
• Gamora – Zoe Saldana
• Drax – Dave Bautista
• Rocket Raccoon – Bradley Cooper
• Groot/Baby Groot – Vin Diesel
Joining the crew of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan).
Although not shown in the teaser are returning characters, Nova Prime (Glenn Close) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn).
Additional characters, Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell), Simon Williams (Nathan Fillion) and Sylvester Stallone.
James Gunn also returns to direct this sequel.
After viewing the teaser a few things are immediately noticeable:
– Gamora and Star-Lord have new costumes.
– Nebula has a new look/headgear.
– Yondu also has the trademark fin of his comic book counterpart.
– Baby Groot is still cute and maybe even cuter in his new form.
I think I’ve watched this teaser well over a dozen times already. The song used in the teaser (the dancing baby – Ooga Chaka song, Hooked On A Feeling) goes so well with the sequel, it takes you back to the feeling of first movie. As I mentioned in the beginning, it does not reveal a lot about the sequel or the storyline. But a bit of the plot was talked about at the panel, in Hall H, at SDCC earlier this year.
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Yondu is no longer in charge of the Ravagers and joins the Guardians. Which might explain the scene in the trailer where Rocket and Yondu are casually walking across a bridge as bodies, that look like Ravagers, are falling from the sky all around them.
Not sure why Nebula has the new headgear implants, since she was able to heal from her injuries in the first movie.
This time around, Baby Groot is riding on Rocket instead of Rocket on Groot. Can Baby Groot get any cuter? He looks like a Funko Pop! figure.
Teaser features scenes of each member of the Guardians, with a bit of action and explosions. But the highlight moment is the interaction between Drax and Star-Lord near the end. Drax to Star-Lord, “You need to find a woman who is pathetic. Like you.” It’s the funniest part of the entire teaser, which made me love the first movie.
The sequel also involves the search for Star-Lord’s father, which was teased in the ending of the first movie, and has been revealed to be Ego the Living Planet. In the comic book, Ego is an ancient cosmic being that has the form of a head the size of a planet. In this movie, he will be in a human-sized form instead of the planet form.

Not only was the teaser trailer released but director, James Gunn also tweeted out an image of the teaser movie poster through his Twitter account. It looks just as awesome as the trailer i black and white, with the cast looking badass leaning against a wall. The poster reminds me of a cool rock group album cover or record promotional poster. If you look closely near the bottom of Star-Lord’s foot you can find Baby Groot.
