Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.” The sequel “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” heads back to New York City, where a new malevolence emerges from its icy slumber.

The trailer opens with a voiceover that’s familiar to the franchise. William Atherton’s Walter Peck talk about the legend of four hacks who called themselves the Ghostbusters and claimed to have saved the world despite the fact that there were with no eye-witnesses to see their efforts. And now, the descendants of Egon Spengler carry the torch. Peck lists the reasons why the Ghostbusters should be finished, one of which includes Phoebe Spengler (McKenna Grace) riding alongside a moving vehicle while firing a proton pack indiscriminately. Of course, Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd) doesn’t agree to those terms, and will take it upon himself, with the help of the a few friends and family, to defeat a new evil. Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon) and Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard) are also there, with the latter providing his legal knowledge – or lack thereof – to support Gary’s case.
This new icy evil has the power to kill by fear itself. Or to put it simply, its like being “scared to death.” To confront this evil, the team will be operating out of the original firehouse, and will need all the help that they can get. That includes bringing back the surviving members of the original Ghostbusters. Which means Gary, the Spengler family, will reunite with Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Dr. Ray Stanz (Dan Aykroyd), Dr. Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), and Ghostbusters’ secretary and confidante and occasionally, a ghostbuster herself Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts).
Other new cast members include Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
Directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the script with Jason Reitman, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” is produced by Ivan and Jason Reitman, along with Jason Blumenfeld. Busting will make us feel good when sequel opens in theaters on March 22, 2024.
