Based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel, and the seventh overall film in the franchise, the sequel features a “multigenerational twist,” with the film picking up many years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) originally swapped bodies.
Anna with a daughter of her own and a soon to be step-daughter joining the family. While Tess and Anna discover that lightning does strike twice, there merged family of four will have to navigate the ins and outs of child and adulthood in a modern age. But unlike the last film where Tess and Anna swapped bodies, the two swap bodies with Anna’s daughter and step-daughter, making things slightly complicated. There’s Harper Coleman (Julia Butters), Anna’s daughter and Tess’ granddaughter who ends up in Anna’s body, and Lily Davies (Sophia Hammons), Eric’s daughter who ends up in Tess’ body. Eric is played by “The Acolyte” star Manny Jacinto.
Set after the events of the first “Freaky Friday,” which was actually an updated take on the original film, the sequel has three generations of body swapping happening at once. And all set to the tune of Chappell Roan’s Hot to Go.
Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Ryan Malgarini, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Lucille Soong and Rosalind Chao reprise their respective roles from the original film, with Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto and Sophia Hammons joining the cast.
Kristin Burr, p.g.a., Andrew Gunn, p.g.a., and Jamie Lee Curtis are producers with Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lindsay Lohan serving as executive producers.
