There have been a total of six directors helming the ten films of the Fast & Furious franchise, and it looks like Louis Leterrier will be the one to close the book on the street racing turn heist turned spy thriller action flick. But before Dom crosses the finish line or sees the end of the road – or whatever racing pun is left – Universal is teasing us with their forthcoming Fast X. Now the studio has a brand-new heart-racing trailer that is sure to drive up some excitement.
It seems fitting that the tag for “Fast X” is “the end of the road begins,” which hints at there being a finality to it all. The entire thing started out as a street racing film staring two virtual unknowns at the time in 2001. Since then, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are synonymous with the franchise. Though the latter tragically died in a car accident, the rest of the Fast & Furious family carried on its legacy while honoring his contributions. But like they say, all good things must come to an end. And it looks like Diesel wants it to end on a very explosive high note.
As for the trailer, well, a mysterious man from Dom’s past has come back to haunt him. What they and (we as an audience) didn’t know was that this man is Dante (Jason Momoa), the son of the Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes, whom Dom stole from in 2011’s “Fast Five.” Now Dante seeks retribution, even if that means killing Dom and his family.
While we’ve seen some crazy stunts and finally got the family launched into space, it looks like the Fast & Furious franchise hasn’t lost its touch when it comes to raising the stakes. We can see that as Dom races his signature car down a dam before an explosion can consume him and his son.
The film also sees the return of Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jason Momoa, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, John Cena, Jason Statham, Sung Kang, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, Scott Eastwood, with Helen Mirren. With Oscar® winner Brie Larson as Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency; Alan Richtson (Reacher) as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who doesn’t hold the same fondness for Dom’s crew as his predecessor, Mr. Nobody; Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) as a Brazilian street racer with a powerful tie to Dom’s past; and legendary Oscar® winner Rita Moreno as Dom and Mia’s Abuelita Toretto joining the cast.
Justin Lin, Zach Dean, and Dan Mazeau wrote the script.
“Fast X” opens in theaters on May 19, 2023.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast & Furious Saga, launches the final chapters of one of cinema’s most storied and popular global franchises, now in its third decade and still going strong with the same core cast and characters as when it began.
Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.
In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.
Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.
