Some of my favorite memories of my mom are times we spent baking in the kitchen. Nowadays, I’m making sure to pass on the same traditions with my little girl. She loves to help out in the kitchen. Baking is a great way for a child to jumpstart his/her “Junior Chef” skills. He can practice culinary arts in your kitchen before “starring” in his favorite cooking show.
What I love about baking is that it can be simple, especially with mixes like Krusteaz! Frusteaz sent us a variety of mixes, as well as,some goodies to make our baking experience fun! Our favorite in the house is chocolate chip cookies (we’re big fans of Cookie Monster). My daughter eagerly put on her apron (and took a selfie). She followed the box’s directions. We set out the required ingredients, and she went to town!
My daughter decided to create ice cream cookie sandwiches. Technically, it’s Fall, but we’ve experienced back-to-back heat waves in Southern California, so an ice cream treat is well-deserved after a long day of work or school. We followed the handy recipe on the box. Under my daughter’s lead, this turned into a great family activity.
What’s the best part about it? She made them all by herself. She spooned out the mixture. Put on her oven mitt and I helped her place them in the kitchen. I did help with placing the cookies in the oven. This is a great time to talk about safety in the kitchen and the use of oven mitts!
Our cookies wound up being fairly large, but what kid doesn’t love an over-sized cookie?? Scoop out your favorite ice cream in between two cookies, and voila! An instant, delicious, anytime treat! I recommend freezing the sandwiches, but we were impatient and gobbled up our treats.
While your child appears to show an interest in baking, introduce cooking to him. Give him a peek into a foodie’s world. Introduce spices you use through smell and taste. Consider making a stew, chili or soup together. In this way, your child becomes part of the creative process.
Krusteaz, a delicious brand of convenient, high-quality, boxed baking mixes, wants to help by sharing their new Bakery Style Cookie Mixes with you and your family. To get your baking on, we’d love to send you a kit for review that would include the following:
