Have you heard the Tangled “world” has expanded with “Tangled: Before Ever After”, a new Disney Channel original movie. To celebrate the release of the film, my daughter and I decided to create a Paper Lantern!
Paper lanterns are easy to make and we made a few that have been “hanging around” for years. My daughter first started to make them when she was a toddler! Lanterns are symbolic in the film Tangled. Rapunzel dreams of seeing, in person, the floating lights that seem to happen every year on her birthday. The scene with her and Flynn in a rowboat during the release of the laterns is my favorite! The scene is breathtaking as Rapunzel and Flynn are swarmed by twinkling lanterns!
What you’ll need to create your lantern:
-Thicker stock paper (I like to buy pretty paper from Michaels but construction paper will work!)
-Scissors
-Glue or tape
-Hole puncher (optional)
-Ribbon (optional)
Steps
First step fold the paper in half
Second cut the folded part of the paper. I try to create cuts that are around an inch wide.
Unfold, roll the paper so the sides meet.
Put the two ends together and tape or glue the sides. If you want to create a handle with the same paper, cut about an inch off and put to the side. When done, tape or glue the paper to the inside of the lantern. Another method is to punch holes on the top of the lantern and loop through ribbon, string or yarn. Really, anything goes!
In Chinese culture lanterns symbolizes the wish for a brighter future. That seems to be what’s in store for Rapunzel as well as my daughter!
The DVD is out in stores on April 11!
I believe Tangled is the first Disney film that my daughter watched on repeat. She adored Rapunzel and her side-kick Pasqual. She thought Flynn Ryder was hysterical, especially since the “Wanted” poster artists never could get his nose right. We knew the soundtrack and adored the song “The Light”. As fans of Tangled we early watched Before Ever After and we loved it! We were excited to see more of Rapunzel especially with her
long hair!
Win a copy of it now on my site!

The thing I liked best about Tangled was the humor, as well as the wonderful animation!

I love the strong princess who helps to save herself.
I like how funny she is and how she doesn’t act like a princess but a regular girl!
I love the characters.
The lantern is really pretty…I love the paper. I had no idea what the lantern symbolized.
I love that she is fearless and a little sassy. I love that she uses what she has to her ability. I love that she is ore modern than Rapunzel.

I thought it was a funny take on the original
I love the music
I like that the star of the TV show Chuck did the male lead character’s voice!

Tea light covers, designs created with holes in paper. Would be great if they were placed together for a landscape DIY Paper Lantern – think we might already have a how to on this but am pinning anyway just in case!
