Do your kids love PBS shows? There are three new DVDs coming out that you won’t want to miss. Caillou: Caillou’s Fun Outside, Martha Speaks: Martha Goes to School and Super Why! Attack of the Eraser are available now!
Super Why! Attack of the Eraser
- Runtime: Approximately 100 minutes
- SRP: $14.99 U.S.
DVD Overview: Super Why and his super friends go to new and exciting places in the new-to-DVD release ATTACK OF THE ERASER. Join the super friends as they practice spelling, use the power to read and investigate rhyming words in order to change the outcome of the story and save the day. From Out of the Blue Enterprises, PBS KIDS and Paramount Home Entertainment, the SUPER WHY! ATTACK OF THE ERASER DVD includes four exciting and educational adventures. The “Super Why!” television series has received the 2008-2009 Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Award and was nominated for an Emmy® for Outstanding Preschool Children’s Series.
Our Thoughts: The Cookbook is Teagan’s favorite episode on this DVD. Whyatt has a “Super Big Problem”! His baby sister Joy is having a birthday and Whyatt wants to make her a carrot applesauce cake but doesn’t know how. Super Readers to the rescue! Viewers learn what it takes to make the cake through audience participation and clues. Ingredients, measure & mix, and bake uncover the Super Story Answer!
We love that Super Why helps kids with their alphabet, spelling and reading. Teagan enjoys the loveable characters and super friends personas!
MARTHA SPEAKS: MARTHA GOES TO SCHOOL
- Runtime: Approximately 110 minutes
- SRP: $14.99 U.S.
DVD: The endearing beloved family dog, Martha, has a lot to say in her new release Martha Goes to School. Join Martha and her family as they discover hundreds of new words to teach children. Based on the successful children’s book series by Susan Meddaugh, and now airing on PBS KIDS, the DVD features eight new-to-DVD episodes.
Our Thoughts: All the episodes are fun but we enjoyed Martha Goes to School. Martha becomes a substitute teacher and teaches the kids about animal behavior! Martha Speaks is designed to help increase young children’s vocabulary. This episode explores words such as substitute, attendance, attention and behavior.
CAILLOU: CAILLOU’S FUN OUTSIDE!
Runtime: Approximately 100 minutes
SRP: $14.99 U.S.
DVD: The beloved Caillou is back in four new-to-DVD episodes featuring 14 fun-filled outdoor adventures. Delightfully imaginative and intrepid, Caillou is ready to teach kids about nature, patience, creativity and outdoor activities. The CAILLOU: CAILLOU’S FUN OUTSIDE! DVD also includes interactive games, music videos, parents’ information and coloring pages – a perfect break from fun in the sun.
Our Thoughts: Teagan loves singing along to the cute Caillou theme song. I think she can relate to this character’s feelings. The episode Outdoor Adventure is about exploring nature! Calliou’s resistance and “I don’t want to” statements definitely hit home. Teagan is definitely going through a “No, I don’t want to phase”. Caillou was hesitant about continuing his journey with his dad and grandfather. Caillou realized that he missed his mom and didn’t want to proceed. Caillou’s dad suggests that they take pictures to show mom what they saw while they were on their outing together. I think that’s a wonderful idea. Teagan has a camera and we encourage her to take pictures of her surroundings.
This show is very sweet and is my favorite out of the three.
Final Thoughts: All DVDs have special features. Pop in the DVD into your computer for games, resources, printable activities and coloring pages! PBS shows are wonderful learning tool for young children. I feel comfortable letting Teagan watch these programs unattended but we also like watching them with her. We can participate together and practice pronunciation and reading letters, etc. It’s wonderful that we have an alternative to cable. We appreciate what PBS offers and we don’t have to pay a high cable bill to experience the educational programming.

Adeline loves PBS! Especially Caillou! These will make a great addition to our dvd library for the car!
My daughter loves Super Why! At her birthday party she wanted to be Princess Presto, so of course, we let her. We also pay for the PBS site, http://www.pbskidsplay.org. It has great games and I reward her with an on-demand video of her choice at the end.
PBS has the BEST shows! Super Why! was one of Jack’s favorites!

PBS is a staple at our house, as are all these shows. Super Why is a great show and Caillou has been a favorite for many years. My 5 year old will still watch it and now my 17 month old is getting hooked. I will definitely check out the DVDs.
I’m almost a year late posting but I have to agree that PBS is also a staple in our home and my kids adore Caillou and Superwhy (so does Mom !)
I’ll be looking to purchase these very soon!
