One of the first toys that come to mind when I think about classic toys is Lincoln Logs. John Lloyd Wright created Lincoln Logs in 1916 and have been loved by generations of children ever since.
My husband played with these when he was younger and was so excited to see if there were any revisions since he’s played with them. We received Double T Ranch Lincoln Log from K’NEX. The building set is stored in a cardboard bin with a plastic top.
This set includes 125 pieces:
110 stained wood logs, 1 cowboy figure, 2 horses, 2 doors, 2 door frames, 1 window, 1 barn roof, 1 add-on roof, 1 open roof, 1 trough, 1 hay bale, 1 barrel, 1 flag. Unfortunately, the Lincoln Logs sticker on the flag was pre-applied upside down!
I love the look and feel of the log pieces. The logs interlock and are easy to stack. The set comes with directions if you’d like to build what you see on the bin. Otherwise, I’d suggest your child use their architectural imagination and creativity to build different structures. Also, young children can get an idea of how people lived in the wild west.
The only thing that frustrated my daughter about the set was that the structures fell apart easily. Sure, just start over but it can be disappointing to a child who has spent their energy and focus on a project. My husband and I jumped in and encourage her to start over. I love her proud little smile when we finally complete the set together. My daughter brought in her other animal figures and included them in her pioneer landscape.
Unlike other toys, this one probably won’t break on you, which makes it worth the money. Lincoln Logs are fun for both boys and girls. What child doesn’t like to build and stack? You might want to look at the Little Prairie Farmhouse for the girl that really loves pink. The Double T Ranch can be found at exclusively on Toys R Us for $32.99. Ages 3+

I remember having these as a kid. My son and daughter had them in the 70’s, too. I’ve bought them for my grandkids now. Lincoln Logs definitely stand the test of time.
Lincoln Logs are so fun! I got my daughter some and they have provided hours of entertainment and will last forever.
We love Lincoln Logs! Our boys have a railroad set and they’re constantly building it, destroying it, then re-building.
Wow the son of Frank Lloyd Wright invented Lincoln Logs? Good trivia. I loved playing with Lincoln Logs as a kid and plan to introduce them to my little ones.
