CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF THE FAST SAGA
#Fast20Anniversary @TheFastSaga
The original film was released in U.S. theaters on June 22, 2001.
The “Fast and Furious” film franchise has continuously reinvented itself in the 20 years since the first film was released. As such, fans are given more of a reason to return to this world which has gone from street racing evolved into a high stakes bank heist and a global spy thriller. Where it can go from here remains to be seen, but the sky is no longer the limit as “F9” will take audiences to the final frontier – or at least the edge of it.
As part of their latest marketing campaign to get you to see “F9,” Universal Pictures has released a number of featurettes celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular film franchises out there.
The first featurette pays tribute to the fans’ dedication to the “Fast and Furious” family. “For 20 years, we’ve been family,” the tag reads as various clips from past films zoom by the screen. As the gears shift and the breaks are pumped, you can see the evolution of the franchise going from illegal street racing to something with higher stakes on the line. All of that leads up to an even smaller but very exciting tease of “F9,” and Han (Sung Kang) closing with “It’s good to be back.”
But if you are looking for something even more sentimental, then the featurette below is right up your alley, as it takes a look back to where it all began and rolls into “F9.” In it, you will see clips of interviews with the late Paul Walker, and current stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and more.
And to dig even deeper, the featurette below centers how the eclectic cast embody Toretto’s idea of family.
Watching these featurettes is quite an emotionally roller coaster as it shows the “Fast and Furious” endurance, its ability to adapt to stay relevant, and sustaining that momentum by being willing to change to the audiences wants and needs. It’s almost hard to believe it all started with a group of criminals trying to make a living by looting big rigs and winning street races. Since then, it has turned into a film that defies the laws of physics. But the FAST SAGA hasn’t forgotten that family is the central theme for all of these films.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “F9;”
Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, the upcoming The Suicide Squad).
Continue the Fast Saga when “F9” opens in theaters on June 25, 2021.
