“Oppenheimer” won Best Picture at the 96th annual Academy Awards. Christopher Nolan won Best Director, while Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Emma Stone, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph collected acting nods.
In addition to winning Best Picture and Christopher Nolan winning Best Director, other “Oppenheimer” wins included Cillian Murphy, who won his first Academy Award for Best Actor. Additional awards went to Robert Downey Jr. for Best Supporting Actor. Ludwig Göransson took home his second Academy Award for composing the score. Hoyte van Hoytema was recognized for his work in Cinematography. Best Film Editing went to Jennifer Lame.
The night’s biggest surprise win went to Emma Stone, who was named Best Actress for her role as Bella Baxter in “Poor Things.” The film also won awards for Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Production Design.
All of the Best Song nominees performed their respective songs at this year’s ceremony, “Barbie’s” Ryan Gosling brought down the theater and got everyone standing up and dancing when he sang “I’m Just Ken,” while Billie Eilish and Finneas stunned with “What Was I Made For.” Jon Batiste sang “It Never Went Away” from “American Symphony.” Scott George and the Osage Singers performed “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from “Killers of the Flower Moon.” And Becky G performed “The Fire Inside” from “Flaming Hot.”
Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and The Heron” was named Best Animated Feature, with “War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko” winning Best Animated Short. “20 Days In Mariupol” was named Best Documentary Feature, while ‘The Last Repair Shop” won Best Documentary Short.
