Warner Bros. Studios has released the newest trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.” The third chapter of the Harry Potter prequel series finds Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen replacing Johnny Depp) amassing recruits to his cause. Now a young Aldus Dumbledore (Jude Law) entrusts Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers.
The “Fantastic Beasts” franchise has come a long way. The first expanded upon the franchise by focusing more on Newt’s search for these fantastic beasts. However, it revealed itself to be a part of a larger story when Grindelwald came out of hiding and declared war on the muggles and those opposing him. The second looked at the wizarding divide and Newt’s quest to stop Grindelwald from raising pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings.
As we can see, their first attempt ended in failure, but now it’s time for Newt and Dumbledore to assemble their own team of wizards, witches, and muggles to take down Grindelwald. ANd along their quest, they will encounter old foes, new allies, friends now turned villains, and, of course, fantastic beasts.
Here’s the official plot synopsis for “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore:”
Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches, and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
As for what could happen next, that is still very much a mystery. The “Fantastic Beasts” franchise is reported to be a part of a five-film story. But given that the film takes place long before we ever meet Harry Potter, there is a good chance that we get to see some historical events much like we saw how the 1920s played a role in the first Fantastic Beasts film.
Directed by David Yates, the film features an ensemble cast led by Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Katherine Waterston, and Mads Mikkelsen. “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” hits theaters on April 15, 2022.
