Netflix took everyone by surprise when they announced that they would be releasing the third season of “Master of None” later this May. While the announcement was a cause for celebration for fans, season 3, which is titled: “Master of None Presents: Moments in Love,” will take an interesting turn as it will shift its focus from Aziz Ansari’s Dev and turn its attention to Lena Waithe’s Denise.
For the past two seasons, Waithe has played a supportive role to Dev, who was navigating love and life at his young age. But Waithe has also played a central role in the show for specific episodes. One that comes to mind is “Thanksgiving,” when Denise comes out to her mother for the very first time. It was such a powerful episode that both Ansari and Waithe won an Emmy.
Now that Denise takes center stage, the show will take a look at moments in her life and the new relationship that she shares with Alicia (Naomi Acki). Acki, who appeared in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and won a BAFTA for her role in The End of the F***ing world, is Denise’s new romantic partner. And while things appear lovely, the trailer also reveals that there are some bumps in the road.
One thing you may notice about “Master of None Presents: Moments in Love” is that Ansari’s Dev is nowhere to be found. Now that could have been a creative decision to give more attention to a character who’s been playing the supportive role, or maybe it has to do something with Ansari’s sexual misconduct allegations. There will probably be no straightforward answer to that, but I think it’s a good move to center the upcoming season on Denise, who has her stories to tell.
Here is the official synopsis for “Master of None Presents: Moments in Love:”
