Do we really need another Toy Story movie?? YES! Yes We do!
I’ve been a huge fan of the series for the past 25 years, and I have vivid memories of the first time I saw the first film back in 2005. And the scene from Toy Story 3 (2010) where Andy goes off to college has left such an imprint on my heart. Amazing how PIXAR can pull on those heartstrings, and bring me to tears. Toy Story 4 is such a fun movie. I didn’t cry, but rather was filled with happiness and excitement. I truly love this film and its new characters. I adore the original toys, which I must confess I wish I saw more of, but the story line was perfect.
In this latest film, the Toy Story Gang led by Woody and Buzz Light Year are taking care of Bonnie. They even guide her through the momentous occasion – the first day of Kindergarten. She creates a new spork friend named Forky. Even my own daughter came home with a spork friend from Kindergarten. Sadly, her spork probably made it into the trash bin.
Bonnie’s Forky isn’t like the other toys, he denies being a toy and heads to any available trash bin. Forky is the best, Tony Hale voice’s him and Forky just might be my favorite new character. He means everything to Bonnie, and Woody helps Forky understand this.
Life changes for everybody when Bonnie and her family go on the road. Woody and Bo Peep reunite and join forces on a rescue mission which takes place in a vintage store taken over by creepy Charlie McCarthy dolls and a doll named Gabby Gabby whose voice box is broken.
Through this adventure we meet new Canadian toy Duke Caboom (excellently voiced by Keanu Reeves), as well as Ally Maki who voices Bo Peep’s pint-sized partner Giggle McDimples. We also learn what happened to Bo after Toy Story and she’s now a fashionable “lost toy” sporting slim capris and a cape!
I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I think another “rescue mission” also takes place for another toy who follows his heart versus following where he thinks his destiny is leading him. I do wish that the ending spent more time honoring the original Toy Story crew. But I think we are seeing the beginning of a new series 🙂
So to the person who asked me, do we need another Toy Story 4? Absolutely! See Toy Story 4! All this from a Rated G movie! I can’t wait to see it again.
Toy Story 4 is in theaters June 21
