In honor of my two fur babies, as well as Sony’s upcoming film A Dog’s Way Home, I made a sock water bottle toy for my dogs to enjoy! Charlie and Wally love toys. They have a drawer dedicated to all of them but honestly? They love to run off with water bottles or paper towel tubes from my recycle bin. Their bin raid always turns into a fun game of keep away. Empty Water bottles are irresistible to dogs! It must be the crinkly sound or the fact that I don’t want them to have it. What’s perfect about this DIY toy is the use of everyday household items resulting in an inexpensive toy.
Do you have a pile of single socks? This is the perfect opportunity to use those mismatched socks that keep turning up in the dryer.
Items:
- Water Bottle
- Sock(s)
- Scissors (optional)
- Dog kibble (optional)
First step is to remove the plastic cap and the white ring below the cap. This step is optional, but you can place dog kibble inside the bottle for a rattle effect (but my dog was obsessed with getting to the kibble). Next, place the water bottle inside the sock bottom first. Then, tie the open end into a tight knot. The end can be kept this way or cut fringes into the sock to give a hassle effect. Another option is to tie both ends to create a “wrapped candy” look. My dogs love to play tug-of-war so they seem to like the “candy” bottles.
Viola! Make sure to supervise your dogs play time with your homemade toy and dispose of your creation if your dogs destroy it!
