The fourth annual LA Art Book Fair, presented by Printed Matter, runs from February 11-14, 2016 at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.
Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair is a unique event for artists’ books, art catalogs, monographs, periodicals and zines presented by over 250 international presses, booksellers, antiquarians, artists and independent publishers.
There are events scheduled throughout the day, such as:
o Special Programming
o CABC – Contemporary Artists’ Book Conference
o Exhibitions
o Book Signings
o Offsite Events
o Talks and Discussions.
I have been going to this since the first one in 2013 and not only are there books to buy, but original art, prints and shirts too. It’s a great event that attracts a thousands of people every year, so it can get crowded and busy at vendor tables. I’ll be there, over the weekend, helping out at the Giant Robot table. We’ll have books by James Jean, David Choe, Katsuya Terada and other artists, along with some prints, zines and pins.
The event is free and open to the public (except for Opening Preview Night on Thursday, which requires a purchased ticket). Food trucks will be outside with some outdoor entertainment.
Event hours are:
Thursday, February 11: 6pm-9pm (Opening Preview Night)
Ticket required for Opening Preview Night which includes the Enamel Pin Fundraising Edition by Sigrid Calon (while supplies last)
Friday, February 12: 1pm-6pm
Saturday, February 13: 11am-7pm
Sunday, February 14: 11am-6pm
The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is at 152 North Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Located in Downtown Los Angeles, next to the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), in near by Little Tokyo.
The museum does have a parking lot next to it, but it is not that big and will get full quickly. There are other parking lots within walking distance nearby and metered street parking available as well.
