I love to drink tea year-round. In the summer, I brew a big pitcher of it and pour it over ice, making it an easy way for me to drink healthy tea while also staying hydrated. But when the weather is cold, like it is now, the idea of a steamy, warm cup of tea just makes me smile and warms me from the inside, out!
All week, I’ve been tasting and testing from the Mighty Leaf World Flavors Gift Sampler which includes one box each of Ginger Twist, White Orchard and Organic Detox Infusion. I’ve enjoyed each of the teas equally but have made it a habit to have the Ginger Twist after dinner because ginger is good for digestion. It retails for $30 and would make a great gift for the tea-lover on your list, especially if they are health-minded since tea has powerful anti-oxidants.
Mighty Leaf Tea was founded by husband and wife team, Gary Shinner and Jill Portman. They loved the idea of bringing new life into the ancient world of tea drinking. They have carefully chosen blends with all natural ingredients including whole leaf tea, blossoms, herbs, fruits and spices. I think it’s really cool that the leaves and blossoms are too big for ordinary tea bags, so they designed their own silky, artisan Tea Pouches™ that are hand-stitched. They say these are the largest tea bags around.
One drawback to having tea hot is that it cools down so quickly. And you can’t take it with you very easily. But Might Leaf came up with a pretty ingenious travel mug. They call it the Teatop™ Brew Mug.
The patented lid has one opening that you drink from, a slit through which you put the teabag label (which, by the way, tells you how long to brew the bag-love it!) and a raised area, a holding area. After you pour hot water into the Mug and let it steep the recommended amount of time, just pull the tea bag string up, which draws the tea bag up, into the holding area, simultaneously squeezing the last, wonderful essences of tea into your hot water, while keeping the tea bag out of the way of your drinking. It also avoids having your tea bag hanging in the water, over-steeping. Brilliant! The only problem I encountered, was that my nose (and it’s not a big nose), ran into that holding area. If you had a particularly large nose, that could be a problem, just sayin’. Otherwise, the mug kept my tea hot (without burning my hands on the outside) and let me brew a perfect cup to take on the go, which I’ve done many times now. The mug retails for $16.95.
