One of the things that my husband and I bonded over while dating was our love of reading. To this day, we’re constantly on the lookout for a great read and not a night goes by without both of our noses buried in a book. So, needless to say, when Jack and Nate each developed a love for reading, we were thrilled! Our boys love books on any subject, and will be an enthusiastic audience for as long as you’re willing to keep reading.
As luck would have it, on a leisurely stroll down King Street in Old Town Alexandria, we stumbled upon Hooray for Books! This privately-owned bookstore is geared towards kids and is absolutely adorable. They have a great selection of books, organized by both age and subject matter…which is wonderful when all your child wants is books about princesses, trains, or pirates. They also have weekly events, including Friday and Saturday morning story times for ages 2 and under.
Nate and I went to the “Very Hungry Caterpillar Day” story time. In keeping with the theme, all the books and songs were about different animals. The staff was great with the kids, made fun book selections, and had everyone singing along to silly songs. We even got a special visit from the Very Hungry Caterpillar himself! Nate had a blast, and loved perusing the pirate and fire truck themed shelves. We’ll definitely head back to Hooray for Books for another story time or when we’re on the hunt for a great new read.
If you find yourself in Old Town, make sure you stop in and check out the store. Or better yet, bring your little one to enjoy story time! It’s just a short walk from the King Street Metro station, or there is metered parking available. I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll love…as well as a favorite new bookstore! You can check them out for yourself at www.hooray4books.com. Follow Hooray for Books on Twitter @HFBooks.

Thanks for sharing! I am also a fan of books, so if I am ever in the DC area (Michigan is kind of far…), it’d be neat to check out their local bookstores. You should review more bookstores! Make a roadtrip of it! Grab a little entourage of friends to review bookstores in places you haven’t been! http://www.bookstorepeople.com/ <<this blog is cool but could be made easier to navigate.
