A new teen drama based on the hit Marvel Runaways premieres this week, streaming exclusively on Hulu!
If High School wasn’t rough enough, an unlikely group of teenagers brought up together by their parents find themselves still bonding after uncovering the horrible secret lives of their parents. Especially when reuniting with one another wasn’t what these six teens had in mind a year after one of their best friends mysteriously died. But after stumbling across their parents participating in a sacrificial ritual involving a young woman, the teens decide to take it upon themselves to get to the bottom of what their parents are hiding behind all while they wear supporting smiles and promises that all they do is for their best of their kids.
The Hulu show expands on the world of the comics highlighting both the perspectives in this teen drama that young adults and older folks can enjoy. It’s more “Real Housekids of Marvel” than episodic action fight of the week we see on other Marvel series. This show hones in on an unfolding mystery centered on dark family secrets and what young people can do when their parents make choices thinking it’s for their protection that could harm others.
We recently were able to interview Ariela Barer (Gert Yorkes) and Allegra Acosta (Molly Hernandez), two of the show’s stars. The duo talk to us about playing on-screen sisters with amazing powers, growing up on superhero films and what it means to them to be able to finally be able to represent girls who don’t usually see themselves on screen in genre shows.
